AMCA Drug & Alcohol Testing Policy

1. Purpose

The Australian Motorcycling Clubs Association (AMCA) is committed to providing a safe, fair, and responsible environment for all participants, crew, officials, and spectators at AMCA-sanctioned events.
The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Protect the health and safety of all participants.

  • Ensure fair competition free from the influence of drugs and alcohol.

  • Maintain the integrity and reputation of the AMCA.

  • Comply with relevant laws, insurance requirements, and duty of care obligations.


2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • All competitors holding an AMCA licence (annual or single-event).

  • Team members, pit crew, event officials, and volunteers in designated operational areas.

  • Any person operating a motorcycle, support vehicle, or event equipment under AMCA sanction.

Spectators are expected to comply with local venue rules and relevant laws relating to alcohol and drug use.


3. Principles

  • Zero Tolerance for Riding Under the Influence: No participant may operate a motorcycle while impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs, or misuse of prescription medication.

  • Testing May Occur: Drug and alcohol testing may be conducted at AMCA-sanctioned events. Testing may be random, targeted, or following an incident.

  • Fair Process: All testing will be carried out respectfully, confidentially, and in line with recognised procedures.

  • Education First: The AMCA encourages education and awareness about responsible use of alcohol and medication.


4. Alcohol

  • Competitors:

    • Breath alcohol concentration must be 0.00 before participating in competition or practice.

    • Any competitor who records a non-zero reading will be immediately stood down.

  • Officials & Volunteers:

    • Must remain below 0.02 BAC while on duty.

  • Spectators:

    • May consume alcohol in permitted areas in line with licensing laws.


5. Drugs & Medications

  • Prohibited Substances: The use of illegal drugs is strictly banned.

  • Prescription & Over-the-Counter Medications:

    • Competitors must declare any medication that may impair performance, alertness, or coordination.

    • A competitor may be required to provide medical clearance to participate.


6. Testing Procedures

  • Testing may include:

    • Alcohol breath testing (hand-held breathalyser).

    • Drug screening (urine or saliva test).

  • Testing can be conducted:

    • Randomly before or during competition.

    • Targeted if impairment is suspected.

    • Post-incident following a crash or injury.

  • Refusal to undergo a test will be treated as a positive result.


7. Consequences of a Breach

  • Immediate Suspension from the event.

  • Disqualification from results of the event.

  • Further Disciplinary Action may include suspension or cancellation of AMCA licence and membership.

  • Officials or volunteers may be relieved of duty and stood down.


8. Support & Rehabilitation

The AMCA supports education and early intervention. Members struggling with alcohol or drug dependency are encouraged to seek professional help. Referrals may be provided upon request.


9. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains consistent with best practice, legal requirements, and the safety objectives of the AMCA.
